This week we expect high, summery temperatures, which is why we decided to go for alcohol and prepare a delicious and refreshing Sangria.

Sangria is an alcoholic beverage originating in Spain and the main ingredients are always red wine, different types of fruits, in order to add a sweeter flavour and something a bit sparkling like soda or sparkling water.

For our recipe, we used:

  • 1 bottle of Fair Trade red wine
  • 1 peach
  • ½ pineapple
  • 1 orange
  • 1 apple
  • 1 Fair Trade lemon soda

The recipe is easy, cheap and quick to prepare but most of all it is delicious and very refreshing, great to bring to a picnic with friends!

So, let’s start!

  • Let's start with the easy part, cut the fruit into small pieces, in our case we chose pineapple, oranges, apples and peaches and set them aside in a very large bowl.

  • Add the wine and the lemon soda in the bowl.
  • Let it rest for a few hours in the fridge and then enjoy it with your friends.

TIPS:

If you prefer to give the sangria a stronger touch, use cognac, brandy or your favourite liqueur and, if you’d like, you can add any kind of fruit you want – just make sure it’s not so ripe that it falls apart. Remember that to make sure that the sangria is full of flavor, it will need to steep with its ingredients for at least 2 or 3 hours (it’s better to make it a day in advance). Oxfam offers a great variety of red wines to use for this recipe, it’s up to you decide which one fits better with your taste!
