Starting as a sole-trade garage business, the German brand Living Crafts grew into a eco-friendly company. Living Crafts states a compromise with nature and stands to it thanks to strict ecological guidelines and parameters for the production during the entire process. In order to certify their veracity, they get periodically checked by independent institutes. Besides, they count with a research and development department to research on the naturals materials used on the production. Likewise, Living crafts counts with a wide offer of underwear, divided between the standard and the functional category to keep you warm.

Living Crafts set themselves a chemical free standard on the materials. They use renewable energy in its supply chain and the eco-friendly materials ensures the environmentally fair production. They trace all the supply chain and they ensure the payment of a living wage to their workers.

Sizable is a Belgian brand created exclusively for men that knows the importance of making comfortable underwear, - that feels as a second skin-. The comfort aimed cannot be achieved with a mass production, they aim to fit every kind of man. Sizable aims for comfort by offering four categories of their boxers, from casual to sportive. Further than that, to guarantee flexibility and support with a combination of comfort, breathability and softness, they designed their own size division. Inspired by the philosophy of classic craftmanship, these categories are witty called Jim, Joe and Jack.

Sizable states that they keep the process in Europe, the factory is located in Portugal but they don’t provide any more information on that matter. Sizable works with organic cotton; natural eucalyptus fibres and bamboo, but the cotton precedence remains unclear. Nevertheless, the quality of the materials assure a long lifespan for their clothes.

Under the philosophy of knowledge, action and respect Knowledge Cotton Apparel (KCA) was funded by the Danish Mads Mørup in 2008. By continuing a family legacy of 50 years, KCA is the self-proclamed leader in the development and manufacturing of organic cotton knitted fabrics in northern Europe. Besides, KCA is committed to create awareness, they make a call to action to their customers in their website, they publish informative articles in a variety of themes such us organic cotton or recycled polyester.

ECOLOGICAL? FAIR TRADE?

Knowledge Cotton Apparel uses a high proportion of eco-friendly materials like Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) cotton, which limits the use of chemicals and water waste in the production. They count with a valid carbon offset program, but there is no evidence of the application on its supply chain. Regarding the labour conditions, KCA counts with a the certification of GOTS and the Business Social Compliance Initiative Code of Conduct- BSCI that ensures the payment of a living wage, but it is difficult to conclude where the final stage of the production takes place.

Based in Barcelona, Brava is a young company run by around 20 workers focused on bringing creativity through daily inspiration and a multicultural environment. By the use of materials like organic cotton, ecological viscose branded by LENZING ECOVERO, that has a certified renewable wood sources, mulising-free merino wool or even recycled wool and polyester. Their designs are influenced by visual culture; their garments show this uniqueness and the intention of creating timeless long lasting apparel. The most innovative in their collection are the corozo buttons, they are made by Tagua Trees that are also known as vegetable ivory. The buttons are made with the nuts that fall to the ground once ripe, this way ensuring the impossibility of an unethical intervention or deforestation.

Brava states a compromise with fairness and transparency along the production chain. Their ateliers are placed in Spain and Portugal. There is a legally binding employment relationship and living wages for the crafters. The use of ecological materials ensures that their underwear is chemical and exploitation free.

ORGANIC BASICS

Organic basics tells through a bold statement what we all know, - the fashion industry is a dirty bastard-. So Organic Basics has a focus on make of sustainability and fairness the main priority. From the fabrics they chose, to the factories they decide to partner with. Their compromise to sustainability reaches even the website, they count with an optional website called The Low Impact website that saves up to a 70 per cent of energy in comparison to the original one. Besides, they also take part of initiatives that include picking up trash in local waterways and collaboration with NGOs like WWF.

ECOLOGICAL? FAIR TRADE?

By the use of a high proportion of eco-friendly materials and renewable energy they ensure a reduced clima-impact and a limitation of the chemicals as well as water waste. Organic basics ensures through a formal statement fair living wage but it doesn’t specify the areas or the percentage of it. Nevertheless, they audit most of its suppliers that are located in different countries like Portugal, Turkey, Italy and Austria.
